What this is
Noise & texture draws a picture from a formula instead of a camera. Perlin noise is smooth randomness: a grid of random directions is laid over the image, each corner is asked which way it leans, and the four answers are blended, so neighbouring pixels stay close in value and the result reads as cloud, marble or worn stone rather than television static. Adding the same pattern again at half the size and half the strength, octave after octave, is what puts the fine detail on top.
How to use it
- Pick a noise type from the list, then set the scale, octaves and seed.
- Turn on seamless tiling to make the edges wrap, and watch the 2×2 tile preview.
- Colour it, or blend it over an image of your own, then save a PNG.

Common questions
Does it need WebGL or a GPU?
No. Every pixel is worked out in JavaScript and drawn on a plain canvas. Any current browser works.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
Yes. Tap to pick a noise type, a preset or a colour mode. Every type, preset and export is there; the largest size is 512.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The image is read and mixed on your device and never leaves it.
Why is a picture from another tool here?
Pictures you add are kept on this device for every lab tool that takes one, so you need not add them again. Press × on a tile to forget that picture; the noise is shown alone.
