Short answers to what goes wrong most often.
The drawing is gone and I see only my photo
Drawing over the photo is off. Open Image overlay and turn it on, or press Clear image to remove the photo. Reset turns the drawing back on and keeps the photo.
I picked an overlay and nothing shows
The grids are drawn only over a photo. Press Image A first. If the grid is faint, raise Opacity.
How do I zoom?
With a mouse or trackpad, scroll over the canvas. Each step zooms by a tenth, towards the pointer.
On a touch screen, pinch with two fingers. The zoom follows the point between your fingers, and moving both fingers together moves the view.
How do I move the view?
With two fingers on a touch screen. A mouse cannot drag the view; zoom towards the part you want with the wheel instead, or tap to move the centre of the drawing. Reset zooms back to the start.
My tap did not move the Penrose tiling
The tiling is always drawn around the middle of the frame. A tap only moves the other four drawings. It does restart the build.
The drawing stopped moving
The spiral, the seed head, the tiling and the rectangle build once and then stay. Press Restart to watch the build again. If the button under Animation reads Play, time is stopped: press it.
Voronoi seeds is slow
Voronoi is worked out patch by patch on your processor, every frame. Lower Seeds, or make the window smaller.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
Yes. Every mode, overlay and export is there. On a phone, or on any touch screen or window under 900 pixels wide when the page opens, the sliders stop lower: 2500 points, 6 subdivisions and 100 seeds. Voronoi cells are worked out in coarser patches, and the canvas is drawn at no more than twice the screen's pixels.
What background does my PNG have?
The frame's own near-black, painted into every pixel, so no part of the PNG is see-through. With a photo loaded, the photo covers it, except where you have zoomed out past the photo's edges.
Copy did nothing
Some browsers do not let a page put a picture on the clipboard. The message then says Copy failed; use Save PNG instead.
My photo did not load
When a file is not a picture, or the browser cannot open it, the page says so. Save it as a PNG or JPEG and try again.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The photo is drawn on your device and never leaves it.
Why is a picture from another tool here?
Pictures you add are kept on this device for every lab tool that takes one, so you need not add them again. Press × on a tile to forget that photo; the drawing goes back to the dark grid.
Are there keyboard shortcuts?
The tool has none of its own. Anywhere in the lab, Ctrl K, or Cmd K on a Mac, opens the list of all tools.
