Dither engine guide
Three looks
Each picture below was made in Dither engine from the sample it opens with. The table under each one is the whole recipe; everything not listed stays as the page opens.
Bayer in mint circles
With Invert off, the dots mark the bright parts. The Bayer matrix repeats every 8 cells, so the greys become regular crosshatch patches instead of grain. A coarse grid and big dots make the pattern easy to see.
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Algorithm | Bayer |
| Invert | Off |
| Scale | 0.25 |
| Dot size | 5 |
| Dot shape | Circle |
| Dot color | Mint |
Raise Scale and lower Dot size together and the crosshatch turns to fine texture.
Atkinson, printed
With Invert on, as the page opens, the dots mark the dark parts, so dark dots on white read like ink on paper. The black edges of the sample print solid, and Corner radius rounds the corners.
Atkinson passes on only part of the error, so the bright middle drops out to clean white.
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Algorithm | Atkinson |
| Dot size | 3 |
| Dot shape | Diamond |
| Background | White |
| Dot color | Custom |
| Custom color | #1a1a1c |
Pick Sampled from image under Dot color on a photo of your own for coloured ink; the diamonds stay.
Blue noise in sand
Blue noise scatters the dots with no grid to see. More contrast and no blur keep the white disc solid and sharp, while the light grey triangle and the soft glow around them break into grain.
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Algorithm | Blue noise |
| Invert | Off |
| Scale | 0.45 |
| Dot size | 3 |
| Dot color | Custom |
| Custom color | #f4d19b |
| Contrast | 40 |
| Blur | 0 |
Press Advanced under View, set Interact mode to Swirl, then move over the dots.
