FX engine guide
Start
The tool opens in Halftone, on a picture it draws itself: 800 × 600 pixels of soft coloured circles on a dark ground, with the word AIKIZI.
What you need
- A current browser with WebGL 2: Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari have it.
- A picture, if you want your own. Any picture the browser can open works.
Your first result
- Open FX engine. The first picture is already there, in Halftone.
- Press Image A to open a picture, or drop one anywhere on the page. Or keep the one it opens with.
- Pick an effect in the list, such as ASCII, Crosshatch or VHS.
- Move that effect's sliders and press its pills. The picture changes as you go.
- Press Save PNG or Save JPEG, or Copy to put it on the clipboard.
Good to know
- Only the controls of the effect you picked show; the section takes that effect's name. Each effect keeps its settings when you switch away and back.
- Sliders glide to their new value over a few frames.
- Matrix rain, VHS and Noise field move all the time. Wave lines and Voronoi move while their Animate is on. Film grain changes every frame too. A save keeps the frame of that moment.
- Adjustments, Color mode and Post-processing work with every effect. Reset puts every setting back and returns to Halftone; your picture stays.
- Your picture is kept on this device, and every lab tool that takes a picture opens with it, until you press × on its tile.
- On a phone the effects sit in a row above the picture; slide it sideways. The controls sit in a bar at the bottom. Tap the bar to open it.
