Image morph guide

Every control

Every control in the panel, top to bottom. The picture itself is a control too: tap it anywhere to start a run.

Load and save

Under the tiles a line says what plays: the samples until you add your own, then A plays into B. Kept on this device, never uploaded. Your pictures follow you to every lab tool that takes a picture, until you press × on a tile.

Image AButton
Picture A as a tile: press it to add or replace your own; two pictures picked or dropped at once fill A and B. The × on a picture takes it away and the sample plays again. Your pictures stay on this device and follow you to every lab tool that takes a picture.
SwapButton
Exchanges A and B, so the transition plays the other way. With one picture of your own, it moves to the other side and the sample takes its place.
Image BButton
Picture B, the one A plays into, as a tile: press it to add or replace your own. The × takes it away and the sample returns. See PNG and JPEG.
Save PNGButton
Saves the frame as it is at that moment, as aikizi-image-morph.png. See PNG.
Record videoButton
Records one run: it presses Replay itself and records the canvas for up to seven seconds. While recording it reads Stop recording; press it to stop early. See record video.
ReplayButton
Plays a run again at once, in the direction the next run would go. See replay.

Effect

EffectChoice
Opens another of the 14 image transitions. Each one is its own page, so your pictures and settings stay behind.

Presets

Liquid morph · Slow shapeshift · Hard cut morph · Dream drift · Rubber pullPick one
Sets every slider at once; it does not start a run. A preset with a different Flow smoothness works out the flow again, so the frame dims for a moment. The highlight goes as soon as you move a slider.
  • Liquid morph: The look the page opens with: smoothness 0.6, warp 0.85, midpoint 0.5, plateau 0.5, zoom drift 0.04, 2.2 seconds, ease in-out. See liquid morph.
  • Slow shapeshift: A long, heavy bend on a very smooth flow: smoothness 0.85, warp 1.15, plateau 0.7, zoom drift 0.06, 3.2 seconds, strong ease in-out. See slow shapeshift.
  • Hard cut morph: A holds, then swaps late and quickly: smoothness 0.45, warp 0.7, midpoint 0.62, plateau 0.12, zoom drift 0.02, 1.6 seconds, ease in. See hard cut morph.
  • Dream drift: A light bend on the smoothest flow, a blend that lasts almost the whole run and the most zoom: smoothness 1, warp 0.55, plateau 0.95, zoom drift 0.12, 2.8 seconds. See dream drift.
  • Rubber pull: The strongest bend on a less smooth flow, and a quick swap that overshoots a little at the end: smoothness 0.3, warp 1.4, midpoint 0.48, plateau 0.3, 1.9 seconds, back out. See rubber pull.

Sliders

The sliders change the next run. Only Flow smoothness makes the tool work out the flow again.

Transition speedSlider · 0.3 to 4 · starts at 2.1
How fast a run plays; right is faster. A run lasts 4 seconds at the left end and 0.3 seconds at the right; the start, 2.1 on the slider, is 2.2 seconds. The number beside it compares with that start, so it reads 1.00× there; 2.00× is twice as fast.
Flow smoothnessSlider · 0 to 1 · starts at 0.6
How smooth the flow is. Higher, neighbouring areas move together and the bend pours like liquid; lower, the flow follows more detail and can tear. A change works out the flow again after a short pause: the frame dims and the hint line reads Computing flow… See flow smoothness, tearing and smoothing.
Warp strengthSlider · 0 to 1.5 · starts at 0.85
How far each picture is pushed along its flow. At 0 nothing bends and the run is a plain crossfade; above 1 they are pushed further than the flow says. See warp strength and dissolve.
Crossfade midpointSlider · 0.2 to 0.8 · starts at 0.5
When in the run the blend is half A and half B, from 0.2, early, to 0.8, late. See crossfade midpoint.
Crossfade plateauSlider · 0.05 to 1 · starts at 0.5
How much of the run the blend takes. Low, the swap from A to B is quick; at 1, with the midpoint at 0.5, it spreads across the whole run. See crossfade plateau and smoothstep.
Zoom driftSlider · 0 to 0.15 · starts at 0.04
A slow zoom through the run: the leaving picture pushes in while the arriving one settles back. At 0 there is no zoom. See zoom drift.
EasingChoice
How a run speeds up and slows down: Linear, three strengths each of ease in and ease out, two of ease in-out, expo out and back out. See easing, ease-in, ease-out, easing strength, expo out and back out.

Export

Under the buttons, a line tells you what the last export did, such as PNG saved.

Reset

Back to the Liquid morph preset. Your pictures stay.

ResetButton
Sets every slider back to the Liquid morph preset. Your pictures and the direction of the next run stay as they are.
