Image shatter guide
Every control
Every control in the panel, top to bottom. The picture itself is a control too: tap it to start a run from that point.
Load and save
Under the tiles a line says what plays: the samples until you add your own, then A plays into B. Kept on this device, never uploaded. Your pictures follow you to every lab tool that takes a picture, until you press × on a tile.
- Image AButton
- Picture A as a tile: press it to add or replace your own; two pictures picked or dropped at once fill A and B. The × on a picture takes it away and the sample plays again. Your pictures stay on this device and follow you to every lab tool that takes a picture.
- SwapButton
- Exchanges A and B, so the transition plays the other way. With one picture of your own, it moves to the other side and the sample takes its place.
- Image BButton
- Picture B, the one A plays into, as a tile: press it to add or replace your own. The × takes it away and the sample returns. See PNG and JPEG.
- Save PNGButton
- Saves the frame as it is at that moment, as aikizi-image-shatter.png. See PNG.
- Record videoButton
- Records one run: it presses Replay itself and records the canvas for up to seven seconds. While recording it reads Stop recording; press it to stop early. See record video.
- ReplayButton
- Plays a run again at once, from the last point you tapped (the centre until you tap), in the direction the next run would go. See replay.
Effect
- EffectChoice
- Opens another of the 14 image transitions. Each one is its own page, so your pictures and settings stay behind.
Presets
- Crystallize · Explode · Sliver wave · Mosaic fall · Frost break · DustPick one
- Sets every slider and Easing at once; it does not start a run. The highlight goes as soon as you change one.
- Crystallize: The calm look the page opens with: cell density 16, scatter 0.45, spin 0.6, stagger 0.45, facet edges 0.35, RGB split 0.008, 1.6 seconds, ease in-out. See crystallize.
- Explode: Few, large pieces thrown far and spun hard, nearly all at once: density 10, scatter 1.3, spin 2.2, stagger 0.15, RGB split 0.02, 1.1 seconds, expo out. See explode preset.
- Sliver wave: Many small pieces that leave in a slow wave spreading from the tap: density 34, scatter 0.7, spin 0.4, stagger 0.85, 1.8 seconds, ease in-out. See sliver wave.
- Mosaic fall: Tiles with dark edges that barely turn, leaving one after another and picking up speed: density 22, spin 0.25, stagger 0.7, facet edges 0.7, 2 seconds, ease in. See mosaic fall.
- Frost break: Medium pieces with the darkest cracks, thrown out fast: density 14, scatter 0.9, spin 1.4, facet edges 0.9, 1.4 seconds, back out, which throws the pieces a little past their mark and draws them back while they fade. See frost break.
- Dust: The finest pieces, flung far with the most spin and faint edges: density 38, scatter 1.1, spin 2.6, facet edges 0.2, 1.6 seconds, strong ease out. See dust.
Sliders
The sliders and Easing change the next run. Between runs the frame shows one whole picture, so a change shows up when a run plays.
- Transition speedSlider · 0.3 to 4 · starts at 2.7
- How fast a run plays; right is faster. A run lasts 4 seconds at the left end and 0.3 seconds at the right. The number beside it compares with the opening look, Crystallize at 1.6 seconds, so it reads 1.00× at the start; 2.00× is twice as fast.
- Cell densitySlider · 4 to 40 · starts at 16
- How many pieces the picture breaks into. The number is how many cells fit across the height of the frame, so higher means smaller pieces. See cell density and Voronoi cell.
- ScatterSlider · 0 to 1.5 · starts at 0.45
- How far each piece flies from where it started, away from the tap. At 0 the pieces stay put, turn and fade in place. See scatter.
- SpinSlider · 0 to 3 · starts at 0.6
- How much each piece turns as it flies. Each turns its own way, by its own amount. At 0 none of them turn. See spin.
- StaggerSlider · 0 to 0.9 · starts at 0.45
- How much the pieces take turns. At 0 they all leave together; higher, the pieces near the tap go first and the far ones wait, so the break spreads outward. Every piece still clears by the end. See break order and stagger.
- Facet edgesSlider · 0 to 1 · starts at 0.35
- How dark the cracks between pieces are, so each one reads as cut glass. The cracks appear only once a piece starts to move. See facet edges.
- RGB splitSlider · 0 to 0.03 · starts at 0.008
- How far the red and blue parts of each piece drift apart along its flight, growing as it flies. At 0 there is no colour fringe. See RGB split and chromatic aberration.
Export
Under the buttons, a line tells you what the last export did, such as PNG saved.
Reset
Back to the Crystallize preset. Your pictures stay.
- ResetButton
- Sets every slider and Easing back to the Crystallize preset. Your pictures, the last tap point and the direction of the next run stay as they are.
