Material alchemy guide

Three looks

Each picture below was made in Material alchemy from its two sample pictures, with a preset and Replay, and caught partway through the run. The table lists the buttons pressed. A run moves, so a picture you save will be a different moment.

Anodized

A pearl-crowned figure before spires under a strong film of green, teal and violet, like heated metal
Anodized partway through: tight, strong bands of film colour while picture A turns into picture B.

Press Anodized under Presets, then Replay at the top of the panel.

The film is twice as thick as Nacre's and the relief deeper, so the colour runs in close bands that follow the shapes of the picture, like heat-coloured metal. The run carries picture A into picture B under the film.

Move Light angle to shift where the bands bloom.

Y3K chrome

The haloed figure as pale, polished silver relief, with the spires of the second picture showing faintly through the metal
Y3K chrome partway through: both pictures as polished metal, one fading into the other.

Press Y3K chrome under Presets, then Replay at the top of the panel.

The picture turns to mirror metal that reflects bright studio bands, and B fades in through the metal. Expo out starts fast and slows sharply, so the metal arrives in the first moments.

Lower Plating to let more of the pictures' own colour through the metal.

Jade idol

Two figures blended in pale green stone, glowing softly from within
Jade idol partway through: both pictures as pale green stone, one fading into the other.

Press Jade idol under Presets, then Replay at the top of the panel.

The picture becomes green stone. Light spreads inside the bright parts, red farthest and blue least, and the thin dark edges glow warm, as if lit from behind. At 2.4 seconds it is the slowest preset.

Raise Scatter radius for a softer, waxier glow, or move Tint for stone of another colour.
