Mosaic engine guide

Three looks

Each picture below was made in Mosaic engine from the sample it opens with. The table under each one is the whole recipe; everything not listed stays as the page opens. The points are scattered at random, so your cells fall in slightly different places.

Stained glass

The sample picture as uneven many-sided cells of flat colour, each outlined in a dark line like stained glass
The Stained glass preset: 500 Voronoi cells with dark lines between them.

Each cell holds the ground nearest to its point, so the pieces come out as uneven shapes with five to seven sides, like glass held in lead.

Edge weight at 30% puts a few more cells along the peaks and the sun, so their outlines hold.

Raise Width under Stroke to 3 for heavier lead, or lower Cell count for bigger panes.

Pointillism

The sample picture made of thousands of overlapping coloured dots, small along the peaks and the sun, larger in the sky
The Pointillism preset: 5,000 dots of mixed sizes on the dark background.

Circle mode drops dots at random and paints each with the colour at its centre. They overlap, and the background shows through the gaps.

Edge weight at 50% packs more dots along the outlines of the peaks and the sun, and makes the dots there a little smaller, so those shapes stay readable.

On a phone, Cell count stops at 3,000, so the same preset draws fewer dots.

Bricks with grout

The sample picture laid as a wall of slightly uneven flat-coloured bricks with dark lines between them
Brick mode with Cell count at 600, jitter at 60%, and 1.5-pixel near-black lines.

Each row of bricks is shifted half a brick, and Jitter nudges every brick and its corners so the wall looks laid by hand.

The lines stand in for grout. The tile modes ignore Edge weight, so the bricks stay the same size all over.
