Ripple transition guide
Every control
Every control in the panel, top to bottom. The picture itself is a control too: tap it to start a run from that point.
Load and save
Under the tiles a line says what plays: the samples until you add your own, then A plays into B. Kept on this device, never uploaded. Your pictures follow you to every lab tool that takes a picture, until you press × on a tile.
- Image AButton
- Picture A as a tile: press it to add or replace your own; two pictures picked or dropped at once fill A and B. The × on a picture takes it away and the sample plays again. Your pictures stay on this device and follow you to every lab tool that takes a picture.
- SwapButton
- Exchanges A and B, so the transition plays the other way. With one picture of your own, it moves to the other side and the sample takes its place.
- Image BButton
- Picture B, the one A plays into, as a tile: press it to add or replace your own. The × takes it away and the sample returns. See PNG and JPEG.
- Save PNGButton
- Saves the frame as it is at that moment, as aikizi-ripple-transition.png. See PNG.
- Record videoButton
- Records one run: it presses Replay itself and records the canvas for up to seven seconds. While recording it reads Stop recording; press it to stop early. See record video.
- ReplayButton
- Plays a run again at once, from the last point you tapped (the centre until you tap), in the direction the next run would go. See replay.
Effect
- EffectChoice
- Opens another of the 14 image transitions. Each one is its own page, so your pictures and settings stay behind.
Presets
- Default · Liquid glass · Chromatic · Psychedelic · Subtle dissolve · ShockwavePick one
- Sets every slider at once; it does not start a run. Pinch intensity goes back to 0.3 with every preset. The highlight goes as soon as you move a slider.
- Default: The reference look: wave width 0.15, ripple density 5, displacement 0.145, RGB split 0.02, glow 0.73, noise warp 1, 1.4 seconds, ease in-out, pinch on.
- Liquid glass: A wide, thick ring that bends the picture a lot and splits colour a little: width 0.28, density 14, displacement 0.21, 1.8 seconds, strong ease in-out. See liquid glass preset.
- Chromatic: A thin ring of many fine waves with a strong colour split and a bright glow: width 0.12, density 42, RGB split 0.044, 1.2 seconds, expo out.
- Psychedelic: The widest, densest and strongest ring, glowing at full: width 0.4, density 96, displacement 0.4, glow 1, noise warp 0.9, 2.4 seconds. See psychedelic preset.
- Subtle dissolve: Barely any bending or colour split, a soft glow and no pinch: displacement 0.06, RGB split 0.006, glow 0.3, 1.1 seconds, ease out. See subtle dissolve.
- Shockwave: A narrow ring that pushes hard and snaps in, overshooting a little at the end: width 0.08, displacement 0.32, glow 0.92, 0.9 seconds, back out. See shockwave preset.
Sliders
The sliders change the next run, and the frame on screen at once when no run is playing.
- Transition speedSlider · 0.3 to 4 · starts at 2.9
- How fast a run plays; right is faster. A run lasts 4 seconds at the left end and 0.3 seconds at the right, and the start, 2.9 on the slider, is 1.4 seconds. The number beside it compares with that start: 2.00× is twice as fast.
- Wave widthSlider · 0.05 to 0.5 · starts at 0.15
- How wide the band of waves is, measured from the tap towards the farthest corner. See wave width and Gaussian falloff.
- Ripple densitySlider · 5 to 100 · starts at 5
- How many rings fit inside the band. At 5 you see one or two broad rings; near 100, many fine ones. See ripple density.
- DisplacementSlider · 0 to 0.5 · starts at 0.145
- How far the waves push the picture along the line from the tap. At 0 the ring moves across without bending anything. See displacement map.
- RGB splitSlider · 0 to 0.05 · starts at 0.02
- How far the red and blue parts drift apart inside the band. At 0 there is no colour fringe. See RGB split and chromatic aberration.
- GlowSlider · 0 to 1 · starts at 0.73
- How much the crests of the waves brighten, in the way a dodge blend mode lightens. At 1 the top of each crest turns white.
- Noise warpSlider · 0 to 1 · starts at 1
- How much the rings wobble. At 0 they are perfect circles; higher, two layers of noise bend them into uneven shapes. See noise warp and fractal Brownian motion.
- EasingChoice
- How a run speeds up and slows down: Linear, three strengths each of ease in and ease out, two of ease in-out, expo out and back out. See easing, ease-in, ease-out, easing strength, expo out and back out.
- PinchOn or off · starts on
- Adds a small dent at the tap point for the first half second of a run, with a soft shadow in it, as if a finger pressed the picture. See pinch dimple.
- Pinch intensitySlider · 0 to 1 · starts at 0.3
- How deep the dent is. It only matters while Pinch is on.
Export
Under the buttons, a line tells you what the last export did, such as PNG saved.
Reset
Back to the Default preset. Your pictures stay.
- ResetButton
- Sets every slider back to the Default preset. Your pictures, the last tap point and the direction of the next run stay as they are.
