What this is
Depth terrain turns a flat picture into land you can turn around in 3D. In Photo mode it reads the picture as a heightmap: each pixel's brightness becomes its height, so light areas rise into peaks and dark areas sink into valleys. In Map mode it reads the colours of a drawn map as ground types instead, so sea stays low, sand and grass sit just above it, and rock and snow climb into mountains.
How to use it
- Choose or drop an image, or try the sample map.
- Pick Photo or Map, then shape the land with the sliders.
- Drag to turn the land, then save a PNG or the files for your game.

Common questions
How big can my picture be?
Any size opens. Photo mode reads it at up to 512 pixels on its long side. Map mode reads it at up to 1024, and keeps a copy of up to 2048 for the picture on the land.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
Yes. Drag with one finger to turn the land and pinch to zoom. With the brush on, dragging paints. Every mode and file is there; phones get a lighter mesh.
Is my picture uploaded?
No. The land is built on your device, and Map mode reads your map in a background worker in the same tab.
Why is a picture from another tool here?
Pictures you add are kept on this device for every lab tool that takes one, so you need not add them again. Press × on a tile to forget that picture; the sample map comes back.
