Ink Weight guide
Start
The tool opens with the sample in kanji, the Crow words, and lets it settle once as a short rain of light characters on a dark paper. The line under Layout counts the cells.
What you need
- A current browser. Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari all work. No GPU is needed.
- A picture, if you want your own: one bright subject on a darker ground reads best. Any picture your browser can open works.
Your first result
- Open Ink Weight. The sample is already written.
- Press Image A to open a picture, or drop one on the frame. Or press Try the sample.
- Under Words, pick a script (Kanji, Devanagari, Tamil, Latin or Symbols) and the set your picture is made of, or press Your own and type the characters.
- Move Ground until the background falls away, and Columns for more or less detail.
- At the top of the panel, press Save PNG, or Save SVG, Copy text, Save .txt or Record video.
Good to know
- The line under Words shows the characters in use, light to heavy, and says how many there are and how much ink the lightest and the heaviest carry.
- Characters your device cannot draw are left out without a word. If fewer than three are left, the Crow words are used and the line says so.
- Under Motion, pick Rain, Write, Gather or Breathe and press Play to see it; Record video saves one take.
- Raise Haze for a faint field of light characters behind the subject; set it to 0 for a clean ground.
- Your own words stay on this device for your next visit, and nowhere else.
- Your picture is kept on this device, and every lab tool that takes a picture opens with it, until you press × on its tile.
- On a phone the controls sit in a bar at the bottom of the screen. Tap the bar to open them. Columns opens at 64 there and stops at 120.
