Particle disperse guide

Every control

Every control in the panel, top to bottom. The picture itself is a control too: tap it to start a run from that point.

Load and save

Under the tiles a line says what plays: the samples until you add your own, then A plays into B. Kept on this device, never uploaded. Your pictures follow you to every lab tool that takes a picture, until you press × on a tile.

Image AButton
Picture A as a tile: press it to add or replace your own; two pictures picked or dropped at once fill A and B. The × on a picture takes it away and the sample plays again. Your pictures stay on this device and follow you to every lab tool that takes a picture.
SwapButton
Exchanges A and B, so the transition plays the other way. With one picture of your own, it moves to the other side and the sample takes its place.
Image BButton
Picture B, the one A plays into, as a tile: press it to add or replace your own. The × takes it away and the sample returns. See PNG and JPEG.
Save PNGButton
Saves the frame as it is at that moment, as aikizi-particle-disperse.png. See PNG.
Record videoButton
Records one run: it presses Replay itself and records the canvas for up to seven seconds. While recording it reads Stop recording; press it to stop early. See record video.
ReplayButton
Plays a run again at once, from the last point you tapped (the centre until you tap), in the direction the next run would go. See replay.

Effect

EffectChoice
Opens another of the 14 image transitions. Each one is its own page, so your pictures and settings stay behind.

Presets

Ash · Ember rise · Sandstorm · Pixel burst · Dust settle · DetonatePick one
Sets every slider and the easing at once; it does not start a run. The highlight goes as soon as you move a slider.
  • Ash: The opening look: density 180, scatter 0.35, gravity 0.45, turbulence 0.6, particle size 3, fade curve 1, no wind, 1.8 seconds, ease in-out. The points spread a little and fall.
  • Ember rise: Points that float up instead of falling: gravity -0.55, a light wind upward, a little more swirl, fade curve 1.4, 2.2 seconds, ease out.
  • Sandstorm: Many small points blown hard to the right: density 200, wind X 0.85, little gravity, particle size 2.4, 1.6 seconds.
  • Pixel burst: Fewer, bigger points thrown far out from the tap with no gravity or wind: density 130, scatter 1.2, particle size 5, fade curve 0.6, 1.2 seconds, expo out.
  • Dust settle: The most points, drifting down with a strong swirl and a long fade: density 220, scatter 0.14, gravity 0.6, turbulence 1.1, particle size 2, fade curve 1.8, 2.6 seconds, the slowest preset.
  • Detonate: A hard blast outward that snaps in and overshoots a little: scatter 1.4, gravity 0.35, turbulence 0.9, particle size 4.2, fade curve 0.7, 1.1 seconds, back out, the fastest preset.

Sliders

The sliders change the next run, and the frame on screen at once when no run is playing. Density also changes a run that is playing.

Transition speedSlider · 0.3 to 4 · starts at 2.5
How fast a run plays; right is faster. A run lasts 4 seconds at the left end and 0.3 seconds at the right. The number beside it compares with the opening look, Ash at 1.8 seconds, so it reads 1.00× at the start; 2.00× is twice as fast.
DensitySlider · 60 to 260 · starts at 180
How many points across and down the grid has, from 60 to 260: 180 makes 32,400 points in all. See density.
ScatterSlider · 0 to 1.5 · starts at 0.35
How hard the points are thrown away from the tap. At 0 nothing flies outward. See scatter and spread.
GravitySlider · -1 to 1 · starts at 0.45
A steady pull on every point. Right of 0 they fall; left of 0 they rise, like embers. See gravity.
TurbulenceSlider · 0 to 2 · starts at 0.6
How much the points swirl as they go. At 0 each flies straight; higher, a curl noise field bends their paths. The swirl is the same on every run. See curl noise and noise flow.
Particle sizeSlider · 1 to 8 · starts at 3
How big each point is drawn, in screen pixels. Points grow a little mid-flight and shrink as they fade. See particle size.
Fade curveSlider · 0.2 to 3 · starts at 1
How each point fades over its life. Below 1 it stays bright and vanishes near the end; above 1 it dims early and leaves a long faint tail. See fade curve and particle age.
Wind XSlider · -1 to 1 · starts at 0
A steady wind across the frame: right of 0 blows the points right, left of 0 blows them left. See wind drift.
Wind YSlider · -1 to 1 · starts at 0
A steady wind up or down: right of 0 blows the points down, left of 0 blows them up. See wind drift.
EasingChoice
How a run speeds up and slows down: Linear, three strengths each of ease in and ease out, two of ease in-out, expo out and back out. See easing, ease-in, ease-out, easing strength, expo out and back out.

Export

Under the buttons, a line tells you what the last export did, such as PNG saved.

Reset

Back to the Ash preset. Your pictures stay.

ResetButton
Sets every slider and the easing back to the Ash preset. Your pictures, the last tap point and the direction of the next run stay as they are.
