Seam melt guide

Every control

Every control in the panel, top to bottom. The picture itself is a control too: tap it to move the protected spot and start a run.

Load and save

Under the tiles a line says what plays: the samples until you add your own, then A plays into B. Kept on this device, never uploaded. Your pictures follow you to every lab tool that takes a picture, until you press × on a tile.

Image AButton
Picture A as a tile: press it to add or replace your own; two pictures picked or dropped at once fill A and B. The × on a picture takes it away and the sample plays again. Your pictures stay on this device and follow you to every lab tool that takes a picture.
SwapButton
Exchanges A and B, so the transition plays the other way. With one picture of your own, it moves to the other side and the sample takes its place.
Image BButton
Picture B, the one A plays into, as a tile: press it to add or replace your own. The × takes it away and the sample returns. See PNG and JPEG.
Save PNGButton
Saves the frame as it is at that moment, as aikizi-seam-melt.png. See PNG.
Record videoButton
Records one run: it presses Replay itself and records the canvas for up to seven seconds. While recording it reads Stop recording; press it to stop early. See record video.
ReplayButton
Plays a run again at once, protecting the last spot you tapped (the centre until you tap), in the direction the next run would go. See replay.

Effect

EffectChoice
Opens another of the 14 image transitions. Each one is its own page, so your pictures and settings stay behind.

Presets

Digest · Subject survives · Accordion · Squeeze cutPick one
Sets every slider at once; it does not start a run. The highlight goes as soon as you move a slider.
  • Digest: Weak protection over a wide area and low energy gamma, so the whole picture is eaten inward almost evenly: carve 0.55, protect strength 0.15, radius 0.5, gamma 0.7, 2 seconds, ease in-out. See digest.
  • Subject survives: The opening look. Full protection over a tight area, so everything round the protected spot goes first: carve 0.55, protect strength 1, radius 0.22, gamma 1.4, 2.2 seconds, strong ease in-out. See subject survives.
  • Accordion: Less carving and a high energy gamma, so mostly the plainest columns go and the picture folds in pleats: carve 0.42, protect strength 0.45, radius 0.4, gamma 2.4, 1.6 seconds, back out. See accordion.
  • Squeeze cut: A fast, full squeeze: carve 0.55, protect strength 0.6, radius 0.3, gamma 1.1, 1.1 seconds, expo out. See squeeze cut.

Sliders

Carve amount, Transition speed and Easing change the next run at once. The three that shape the seams make the tool work them out again a moment after you move them.

Transition speedSlider · 0.3 to 4 · starts at 2.1
How fast a run plays; right is faster. A run lasts 4 seconds at the left end and 0.3 seconds at the right. The number beside it compares with the opening preset's 2.2 seconds, so it reads 1.00× at the start; 2.00× is twice as fast.
Carve amountSlider · 0.1 to 0.55 · starts at 0.55
How much of the width is removed at the narrowest point, halfway through a run. At 0.55 a little less than half the width is left. See carve amount.
Protect strengthSlider · 0 to 1 · starts at 1
How hard seams steer round the protected spot. At 0 the spot gets no help, and seams follow the energy map alone. See subject protection.
Protect radiusSlider · 0.08 to 0.6 · starts at 0.22
How large the protected area is, as a share of the picture's longer side. The protection fades smoothly with distance from the spot. See protect radius and Gaussian falloff.
Energy gammaSlider · 0.4 to 3 · starts at 1.4
A curve on the edge scores. Above 1, strong edges count for more than weak ones, so plain areas go first and strong edges hold; below 1, the scores even out and seams cut through detail more readily. See energy gamma and gamma.
EasingChoice
How a run speeds up and slows down: Linear, three strengths each of ease in and ease out, two of ease in-out, expo out and back out. See easing, ease-in, ease-out, easing strength, expo out and back out.

Export

Under the buttons, a line tells you what the last export did, such as PNG saved.

Reset

Back to the Subject survives preset. Your pictures stay.

ResetButton
Sets every slider back to the Subject survives preset. Your pictures, the protected spot and the direction of the next run stay as they are.
