Color palette guide
Start
The tool opens with a random palette already on screen, in Random mode.
What you need
- A current browser. Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari all work.
- A picture, only if you want a palette from one. Any picture your browser can open works.
Your first result
- Open Color palette. Five colour bars are already there, in Random mode.
- Press Generate palette, or press Space, for five new colours.
- Press Lock on each bar you like. It turns to Locked. Press Space again: only the other bars change.
- For colours that follow a rule, pick Harmonious under Mode, then a Base color and a rule such as Triadic. The bars change at once.
- Select a bar to copy its hex code, or press CSS variables at the top of the panel to copy the whole palette.
Good to know
- Each press of Generate or Space gives different colours in Random and From keyword modes. In Harmonious mode the colours only change when the base colour or rule changes.
- Everything you copy goes to the clipboard, and a short note at the bottom of the screen says so. Nothing is saved as a file.
- The palette is not kept when you close or reload the page. Copy it first. Your picture is: it stays on this device, for every lab tool that takes a picture, until you press × on its tile.
- On a phone the bars stack as rows, and the controls sit in a bar at the bottom of the screen. Tap the bar to open them.
