Style DNA guide

Every control

Every control in the panel, top to bottom. The six score bars and the six weight sliders are made when the page loads, so each group has one line here. Export starts closed; tap its title to open it.

Load and save

They stay at the top while the panel scrolls. The two tiles are the previews: each shows its picture, or a plus while it waits for one. Until both are in, the frame says which picture to choose. Your pictures stay on this device for every lab tool until you press × on a tile.

Image AButton
Image A, the first picture. Press it to open one from your device, or drop one on the left half of the frame; two at once fill A and B. It is kept on this device, never uploaded, and every lab tool that takes a picture opens with it until you press × on its corner, which brings back the sample for A. Once both pictures are in, the six measures run.
SwapButton
Exchanges A and B: A goes to the right and B to the left, and the six measures run again.
Image BButton
Image B, the second picture, compared with A. Press it to open one, or drop one on the right half of the frame. It is kept the same way as A; × brings back the sample for B.
Try with sampleButton
Loads the sample pair into A and B again and scores it, replacing your pictures.
Download PNGButton
Saves an 800 × 700 PNG named style-dna-comparison.png with both pictures, each in its own shape, the radar, the six scores and the overall similarity. See PNG.
CopyButton
Copies the same picture to the clipboard. See clipboard.

View

Side by side · Overlay blend · DifferencePick one
How the two pictures are shown in the frame. The view changes only the picture, never the scores.
  • Side by side: Image A on the left and image B on the right, each in its own shape.
  • Overlay blend: One picture laid over the other, both stretched to one frame. The Blend slider appears. See overlay blend.
  • Difference: The gap between each colour value of A and of B, made three times stronger. Where the pictures match, the frame is black; the more they differ, the brighter it is. See difference view.
BlendSlider · 0 to 100 · starts at 50
Only in Overlay blend. At 0% you see only image A, at 100% only image B; in between, both show through.

Analysis

AnalyzeButton
Runs the six measures again. It stays off until both pictures are in, and the tool already runs them whenever a picture changes, so you rarely need it.
Six score barsFilled in by the tool
One bar per measure, from 0 to 100%: color histogram, edge density, texture, brightness, contrast and warmth. The same six numbers draw the radar.

Weights

Six weight slidersFilled in by the tool
One slider per measure, from 0.0 to 2.0, each starting at 1.0. The overall similarity is the average of the six scores, each counted by its weight. At 0.0 a measure does not count; at 2.0 it counts twice. With every weight at 0.0 the overall reads 0%. With a mouse, hold the pointer on a name for a one-line note on that measure. See axis weight.

Reset

The view, the blend and the weights go back to how the page opened. Your two pictures and their scores stay.

ResetButton
Puts the view, the blend and the weights back to how the page opened. The pictures stay.
