Short answers to what goes wrong most often.
My picture will not open
The tool opens whatever pictures your browser can show: JPEG, PNG, WebP and GIF everywhere, HEIC in Safari only. If it says That file did not open as an image, save the picture as JPEG or PNG and try again.
Is my picture uploaded?
No. Both pictures are read and measured on your device and never leave it.
Why is a picture from another tool here?
Pictures you add are kept on this device for every lab tool that takes one, so you need not add them again. Press × on a tile to forget that picture; that side's sample comes back.
The overlay or the difference looks squashed
Overlay blend and Difference stretch both pictures to one frame, so a tall picture and a wide one do not line up. Side by side keeps each shape.
Both views are drawn at the size the frame shows them, up to 2048 pixels on the long side, and drawn again when the window changes size.
The measures also run on both pictures squeezed to 200 × 200 pixels, whatever their shape. Pictures with the same crop and framing compare best. The saved PNG keeps each picture's own shape.
Does a big picture take longer?
Hardly. Every picture is shrunk to 200 × 200 pixels before it is measured, so a big photo scores as quickly as a small one. It only takes longer to open.
The scores seem odd
Each score compares one thing about the whole picture, not the subject. Two very different scenes with the same colours and lighting can score high.
Texture compares the two pattern counts as a correlation, so even unrelated pictures seldom score near 0 there. Edge density, contrast and warmth compare two single numbers, so a small picture-wide shift can move them a lot.
I moved a weight and the radar did not change
That is right. The weights change only the overall similarity. The six scores, the bars and the radar come from the pictures alone.
Analyze is greyed out
It needs two pictures. Choose image B as well, or press Try with sample.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
Yes. The controls sit in a bar at the bottom of the screen; tap it to open them. Press Image A and Image B to pick pictures from the phone. It draws on a 2D canvas, with no WebGL, so it runs wherever the browser does.
Copy did nothing
Some browsers do not let a page put a picture on the clipboard, and the tool says Copy failed. Use Download PNG instead.
