Aspect ratio describes a frame's shape, not its size. A 16:9 frame is 16 parts wide for every 9 parts tall, like a TV. A 1:1 frame is square, and 9:16 is a tall phone screen. A small and a large picture can share the same aspect ratio. Changing the ratio means cropping the picture or stretching it.
