Texture

An image the GPU keeps in memory and reads from while it draws.

Texture

See it in Noise & texture. Pick the Marble preset, then download the PNG to use it as a texture.

In plain words

A texture is a picture stored on the graphics chip. While drawing, the chip looks up colours in it, much like reading a colour from a pixel grid. Wrapping a texture over a 3D shape makes plain triangles look like wood, stone or cloth. Textures can also hold data that is not colour, such as height or surface direction. Many lab tools draw into one texture and then read it back on the next frame.
