Depth terrain guide
Start
The tool opens with the sample map already standing as land, read in Map mode, so you can start by looking around.
What you need
- A browser with WebGL 2. Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari have it.
- A picture, if you want your own: a photo, a greyscale height picture, or a drawn map.
Your first result
- Open Depth terrain. The sample map is already there, standing as land.
- Drag on the land to turn it. Pinch, or scroll, to move closer or further away.
- Press Image A to open a picture, or drop one on the land.
- Under Read the picture as, pick Photo for a photo or a height picture, or Map for a drawn map.
- Shape the land with Height and the other sliders, then press Save PNG at the top of the panel.
Good to know
- To start from the photo side, open the photo link. It loads a sample of soft hills and reads it as a photo.
- When a picture you drop looks like a map, a line appears over the land and offers to Read it as a map.
- Your picture is kept on this device, and every lab tool that takes a picture opens with it, until you press × on its tile. Here a kept picture opens read as a photo, unless the address asks for Map mode (?mode=map).
- On a phone the controls sit in a bar at the bottom of the screen. Tap the bar to open them.
