Fractal mirror guide

Every control

Every control in the panel, top to bottom. Some sliders matter only in some modes; the line says which.

Load and save

They stay at the top while the panel scrolls. Your pictures stay on this device for every lab tool until you press × on a tile; Reset puts the controls back and leaves them.

Image AButton
Your picture. Press it to open one from your device, or drop one on the frame; two at once fill A and B. It is kept on this device, never uploaded, and every lab tool that takes a picture opens with it until you press × on its corner.
SwapButton
Changes which tile Fractal mirror uses, so a picture you added as B in another tool can be used here. When the other tile is empty, the sample comes back.
Image BButton
A second kept picture. Fractal mirror repeats one picture at a time: the tile it is not using is dimmed and says Not used here, and pressing it only says so.
Save PNGButton
Saves the picture as fractal-mirror.png.
CopyButton
Copies the picture to the clipboard.

Image

A line shows the size of the picture the tool is working on.

Mode

Spiral Droste · Radial zoom · Grid mirror · Kaleidoscope · Tunnel · Spiral galaxyPick one
How the picture is repeated.
  • Spiral Droste: Copies inside copies, bent into a spiral. See spiral Droste.
  • Radial zoom: Copies inside copies in straight rings, like zooming in for ever. See radial zoom.
  • Grid mirror: The picture tiled across the frame, shrinking away from the centre. See grid mirror.
  • Kaleidoscope: Slices around the centre, repeated in rings. See kaleidoscope.
  • Tunnel: The picture wrapped around a tunnel you look down. See tunnel effect.
  • Spiral galaxy: The picture swept into spiral arms around the centre.

Transform

Zoom depthSlider · 0.5 to 8 · starts at 3
How deep the repeat goes. Higher blends more layers of copies and moves further in. See zoom depth.
RotationSlider · -3.1416 to 3.1416 · starts at 0.3
Turns the pattern, from half a turn one way to half a turn the other.
Spiral tightnessSlider · 0.1 to 4 · starts at 1.2
How tightly the copies wind. Used by Spiral Droste, Tunnel and Spiral galaxy. See spiral tightness.
Center XSlider · -1 to 1 · starts at 0
Moves the centre left or right. Dragging on the picture sets it too. See centre point.
Center YSlider · -1 to 1 · starts at 0
Moves the centre up or down. Dragging on the picture sets it too.
Scale factorSlider · 0.2 to 0.95 · starts at 0.5
How big each copy is next to the one around it. Lower makes smaller copies and more of them. See scale factor.
SymmetrySlider · 2 to 12 · starts at 6
How many slices go around the centre. Used by Kaleidoscope, Tunnel and Spiral galaxy, and by Radial zoom when Mirror is on. See symmetry.
MirrorOn or off · starts on
Flips every other slice or tile, so neighbours meet edge to edge. See mirror fold.

Animation

Auto-rotateOn or off · starts on
Keeps the pattern turning and moving on its own. Off, it holds still. See auto-rotate.
Rotate speedSlider · 0.01 to 1.5 · starts at 0.25
How fast it turns.
Auto-zoomOn or off · starts off
Swings the zoom depth in and out on its own. See auto-zoom.
Zoom speedSlider · 0.01 to 1 · starts at 0.3
How fast the zoom swings.
PulseOn or off · starts off
Makes the copies swell and shrink. See pulse.
Pulse speedSlider · 0.1 to 3 · starts at 0.8
How fast they pulse.

Color effects

Hue shiftSlider · 0 to 1 · starts at 0
Shifts the colours of each deeper copy a little further round the colour wheel. See hue shift.
