Standing Sound guide

Every control

Every control in the panel, group by group. Load and save come first in the panel, which scrolls as one.

On a phone the room also carries its own buttons at the foot of the frame: the three rooms, then Hold, Keep, Take and Picture. The panel is the sheet at the bottom.

Load and save

Where the sound comes from, and what you can save. The line under the sources names what is playing and whether it is held.

Open a sound fileButton
A sound or a video file from your device. It plays from the start; the strip at the foot of the room shows the whole song and where you are.
House pieceButton
The house piece: a voice in D singing over a drone, a soft pulse, a shaker and now and then a bird. It is made in your browser, the same every time.
MicrophoneButton
Listens to your microphone. What it hears is read, never played back. The browser asks first.
Browser tabButton
Listens to another browser tab: pick the tab and turn on Share tab audio. Chrome and Edge share a tab's sound; other browsers share it without sound, and the page says so.
PictureButton
This view as a PNG, with the labels the room carries (P).
TakeButton
Records the room with its sound until you press it again (V); the button counts the seconds. The size and shape come from Take below. An MP4 where the browser can, else a WebM. Free, with no sign-in and no watermark.
JSONButton
The held sound as JSON: one line per point with its time, pitch, frequency, loudness, song time and kind. Hold first.
PLYButton
The held sound as a PLY file: every point where it stands in this room, with its colour. Hold first.

Samples

Three songs by cyberyogi, made with Suno, fetched from aikizi.com like the page itself and free to use in what you record here.

BhaktiButton
Plays Bhakti, Indian classical: a bansuri flute over strings, 4:16 (5 on the door).
Cassettes, RainButton
Plays Cassettes, Rain, a lo-fi beat, 2:44 (6 on the door).
Astral CaravanButton
Plays Astral Caravan, psychedelic synthwave, 3:50 (7 on the door).

Take

The size and shape of a take. The room is drawn at that size whatever the size of your window, and the line under the chips names the pixels and the file. Free, with no sign-in and no watermark.

1080p · 1440p · 4KPick one
How large the take is; the size names the short side. Fixed while a take runs, and remembered on this device.
  • 1080p: 1920 × 1080 in 16:9.
  • 1440p: 2560 × 1440 in 16:9.
  • 4K: 3840 × 2160 in 16:9. It asks a lot of the graphics card; if the take stutters, choose 1080p.
16:9 · 9:16 · 1:1Pick one
The shape of the take. While it records, the room on screen is framed to it.
  • 16:9: Wide, for YouTube or a screen.
  • 9:16: Tall, for Reels, Shorts and TikTok: 1080 × 1920 at 1080p.
  • 1:1: Square: 1080 × 1080 at 1080p.

Room

Three ways of standing a sound in space. The same points move from one to the other; low notes leave first.

Corridor · Bloom · ScorePick one
The room. The line under the chips says what its directions mean (1 2 3).
  • Corridor: Corridor: time is depth and pitch goes around you, octaves further from the middle.
  • Bloom: Bloom: time is distance from the middle, so the music grows outward; pitch is the bearing, octave the height.
  • Score: Score: time runs left and pitch climbs, like a score; brightness is depth.

Show

What the room draws besides the points, and how much time it keeps in view.

ThreadsOn or off · starts on
The hairlines that join a held note or partial from one moment to the next (T).
RingsOn or off · starts on
The beats, passing through as rings (R).
GuidesOn or off · starts on
The room's own drawing and its labels: the twelve note names, the octaves and the seconds (G).
DriftOn or off · starts on
When you leave the room alone for five seconds, it turns slowly by itself (D). Off when your system asks for less motion.
HistorySlider · 10 to 160 · starts at 40
How many seconds the room keeps in view, from 10 to 160 ([ halves it, ] doubles it).

Hold

Stop the sound in place to study it, and keep what you held.

Hold stillButton
Stops the sound in place: a file pauses, a live source goes on but the room stops taking it in (H). Press again to let it go.
KeepButton
Puts the held piece on this device's shelf, with its sound, so you can open it again and hear its points (K).

Kept

What you kept on this device. Press a row to open it again, held, in its own room and view.

Reset

ResetButton
Stops the sound, clears the room, puts the switches, the history and the view back, and opens the door. What you kept stays.
