Standing Sound guide

Start

The room opens on its door. Everything below happens on your own machine.

What you need

• A browser with WebGL2 and Web Audio: any current Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. Without them the page says so in one line.
• A sound: three sample songs and the house piece are already there. Your own file, the microphone or a browser tab also work; a tab needs Chrome or Edge.

Your first result

1. Open Standing Sound and press a sample song, Bhakti, Cassettes, Rain or Astral Caravan (5 6 7 on the door), or Play the house piece. The room starts to fill.
2. Drag the room to turn it and use the wheel to come nearer; on a phone, drag with one finger and pinch with two. The reading on the left names the note you hear.
3. Press Hold still (or H). The sound stops in place. Point at any grain and the reading tells its note, its loudness and when it was heard.
4. Click or touch that point to hear its moment again. Press Keep to put the held piece on this device's shelf.
5. Let it go, choose a size and shape under Take, and press Take (V; on a phone, Take at the foot of the room) to record the room with its sound. Press it again to stop, and the video saves.
