Speed says how fast something moves. Velocity also says which way it is going. It is often drawn as an arrow: the length is the speed and the tip points the way. In a simulation, every step moves each particle by its velocity. Forces such as gravity, or a push from your pointer, change the velocity, and that bends the path.
